Paralimni Municipality
Paralimni is situated in the
southeast coast of Cyprus and it is the centre of cultural, social
and economic life of the unoccupied area of Famagusta district. It
was established as a municipality in 1986 and today it consists of
187 employees providing services such as water supply, civil
marriages, sanitation, waste collection and area cleaning. It is
headed by the Mayor, Mr. Andreas Evangelou, and the Council
comprising of 10 municipal councillors. Committees acting on an
advisory level have been set up to facilitate the council's work
e.g. Technical committee, Tourist committee, Cultural committee
etc.
Protaras is the tourist area of
Paralimni and is a popular holiday resort with approximately 15000
hotel beds and contributes to about 20% to the total country income
from tourism. Today, Paralimni is a prosperous small town with
hospitable citizens.
