gic  4/11/2011

The results of the work of the seven Working Groups, that mark the end of the First Phase of the DG2020 Forum activities, are a set of suggestions for short-term actions. These actions are intended to motivate stakeholders to follow the directions of the Digital Agenda for Europe (Digital Europe 2020) and accordingly, lay the foundations for short and medium-term actions that will contribute to the harmonization of the country with the objectives of Digital Europe 2020

The proposals that emerged through an open dialogue and consultation among the DG2020 Forum members, who participated in the Forum's Working Groups, were presented in the context of immediately feasible proposals, at an open meeting held on 30 March 2011 in the auditorium of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Networks. The event was opened with a welcome greeting from the coordinator of the Forum, Mr. T. Karounos, expert from the Prime Minister's Electronic Government Office.

The Working Groups began their work in early November 2010. This fact has led to a first set of deliverables focused on specific actions that can be adopted and implemented by the Greek State in the near future, as a means of rapid improvement within the aspects of Digital Greece 2020. The proposals presented are the result of collaborative debate, feedback and process both in physical meetings and electronic discussions within the forum, in which participation is free and open to anyone interested.

Some of the measures discussed are:

  • Creation and promotion of a platform that will serve as a benchmark for the digital economy and entrepreneurship
  • National Health Interoperability Framework
  • Strengthening ICT in schools as a means of knowledge management
  • Collection and Management of Citizens' Complaints
  • Equal treatment of open and proprietary software in ICT projects
  • Open Access to Knowledge: Adoption of an Open Access Policy at national level

Among the attendants of the DG2020 meeting, was Ms. Nancy Pascal, Operation Coordinator of the European Commission for the Digital Agenda for Greece and Cyprus, in the field of Information Society and Media, who said that the proposed initiatives put forward a positive image of Greece to the European Commission.

The presentation of the event as well as all the presented proposals, are available on www.digitalgreece2020.gr. You can also watch the video presentations here.

The Working Groups continue their activities, according to the Business Plan adopted by the Organizing Committee, in view of the presentation of the Digital Greece 2020 Policy Framework (June 2011, Greece), as well as the new open meeting of the DG2020 Forum (1st June 2011, Greece) and the International Event on the European Digital Agenda (16-17 June 2011, Brussels).
