Samos 2011 Summit on Future Internet

The Samos 2011 Summit on Future Internet: "The power to change society" was a full and productive 3-day summit, during 4 to 6 July 2011, that took place in the Research and Training Institute of East Aegean - INEAG, at Campos Vourlioton, Samos.

 

The Samos 2011 Summit was co-organised by the ENSEMBLE FP7 project, the Greek Interoperability Centre of the Decision Support Systems Lab - National Technical University of Athens and the University of Aegean, with the support of the FInES Cluster.

 

With an emphasis on Future Internet systems and services in the factory, in the enterprise and within a connected, inclusive society, the Samos Future Internet Summit has been a fruitful event, gaining considerable national and international visibility, as more than 1,000 visitors form 27 countries visited the summit's website during the 3 days of the event, more than 630 viewers attended the live-streamed summit's sessions, more than 300 tweets have been made, reaching thousands of people and more than 15 press publications have been made in the Greek press, Samos Radios and Samos TV.

 

Within this first-class opportunity to see, interact with and influence cutting-edge European ICT research projects and initiatives from a governance, societal or interoperability viewpoint, apart from the presentations from more than 40 speakers from more than 10 countries, two Collaborative Workshops on

 

(a) the new Research Roadmap on Future Internet Enterprise Systems, and

(b) the Enterprise Interoperability Scientific Formulation,

 

have been organised and conducted by the research community, the ENSEMBLE project partners and the Experts Scientific Committee.

 

Finally, the Samos 2011 Summit Declaration calls upon all institutions and individuals such as the United Nations, the European Parliament, the European Union Presidency and Council of Ministers, the European Commission, National Governments, international organisations and NGO's, elected representatives and decision makers within the industry, SMEs and every active citizen, to take decisive steps at global, European, regional and local level, regarding the development and adoption of new and advanced ICT solutions for innovative and competitive enterprises and factories - thereby providing the means for a proper response to the challenges of the future.
